Manchester United retain the Community Shield: 2nd thoughts by Krupesh Muthukumar (@Krupeshvm)

Manchester united won the Community shield for the record 19th time by beating archrivals Manchester city 3-2 in a tense encounter that took place at Wembley. Luis Nani scored the winner in the 93rd minute which spoilt city’s party.
The capacity crowd at the stadium got a chance to view one of the thrilling encounters. The Manchester derby has always turned out to be a special occasion were the rivals United and City give all they have in  them. This match also dint disappoint any of the supporters watching the game.
The match started as usual being an open game right from the word go. With both the teams in the attacking frame of mind , the fans were in for a treat. United made a brisk start by forcing a corner as early as five minutes. The attacking tone of the game was set from then on. Both the sides went for the attack. The enormity of the clash was soon witnessed as a flurry of yellow cards were shown at both ends.
The game’s first goal came in the 38th minute when a curling cross from Silva was netted home safely by Lescott. The goal was a result poor marking by the defenders. Correctly, at the stroke of half-time City went 2-0 up with the help of Dzeko after De Gea who was making his debut with Young was caught napping at his goal.
As expected, Ferguson bought on a string of substitutions at the interval - Cleverley, Evans and Jones coming on for Carrick, Vidic, and Rio respectively. Manchester United are very much known for their comebacks. As expected a brilliant ball from Ashley young was slotted home by Smalling. The goal was a result of poor marking from set-pieces.
United soon equalised in the 58th minute when Nani netted home a perfect finish from what was a brilliant passing move between Nani, Rooney and Cleverley. The goal was a trademark United passing move. The match became intense after that moment as both sides pressing for a win.
It looked like the match was going into extra time when a poor misjudgment from Kompany saw Nani straight through the City defence. It was a one Vs one situation with the keeper and Nani rounded past the keeper and finished it as cool as a cucumber. That moment was euphoric. The supporters at the United end ran riot. The place was filled with United chants. Fans now where expecting the final whistle. And there it was, Phil Dowd had just blown the whistle to signify the end of a brilliant rather an entertaining game of football.
The game saw the rise of young guns like Cleverley, De gea, and Welbeck rise up to the occasion. But one thing is for sure:
”For men may come, for men may go but United go on forever”.
