City did humiliate us, honestly....is our 4-4-2 formation the wrong way to play against big teams? By Benjie Jackson, @MUFCbloggerUTD.

At half time, 0-1 down thanks to Balotelli; I wasn't expecting 45 minutes later to be looking at the numbers 1-6 on the score board. City were awesome today and our midfield was torn apart. In my opinion Anderson was extremely sluggish and we miss Tom Cleverley. As soon as the young lad came on in the Community Shield the game turned because he was using the ball so quickly. Similarly today, David Silva was simply magical, using his speed and vision to kill United. Fergie has recently told the press that any January transfers are unlikely; however we need some bulk in our midfield in order to stop the likes of Silva, and Messi.

Furthermore, the formation leaves our midfield exposed to players who like to get in between the back four. Rooney loves to do this against weaker teams in the PL - however today proved the tactic destroys even the best of teams.

It was Ferguson's most "miserable" day in his career and it will hit us hard. But we have to take this result as a battering ram to help us improve and go on to win the title. Ferguson needs to rekindle the beautiful relationship between Wazza and Chicha, and get us back to winning ways.

What do you think though?

  2. I think alongside Cleverly, United need a strong defensive midfielder that will put the challenges in, winning the ball for Cleverly, Young and Nani to create something for the strikers. e.g De Rossi, Mascherano but a perfect example of this was Chelsea's Oriol Romeu against Genk in the Champion's league last week
