The Gossip, by @alto101010

In the 2010/11 season With most media and opposing fans alike writing us off,  The 19th title was wrapped up and Liverpool finally knocked off their perch.

However it wasn't a vintage united side, with the fast counter attacking football replaced with a will to win unlike any other united side( That I  have witnessed). Our home form was second to none only dropping 2 points all season, our away form distinctly poor dropping points and conceding sloppy goals.

The squad was slowly taking shape everyone could see that Fergie was building his next team. Our defence seems solid as a rock, our forwards have goals in them the only thing that was lacking is a world class midfield that could control games for long periods.

The ever green Giggs more than likely coming into his last season, Scholes unfortunately calling time on a magnificent career, Fletcher having gone backwards last year ( hopefully due to virus), Carrick still divides fans opinion and Ando not living up to his potential. All these things highlighting that a new central midfielder if not 2 is needed.

Having already wrapped up the signature of Young and Jones Fergie is slowly piecing his midfield back together. Young adds pace to the attack we at times missed also his versatility is key being able to play anywhere across the midfield and attack.

Jones coming in as well is a bonus to the midfield although his more natural postion is centreback he is perfectly capable of playing in the holding role, where this season at least may be where he gets most of his appearances.

With most fans still in agreement that we need 1 more player to be that creative spark, out of all the players we have been linked with Sneijder seems the most likely to sign.

Sneijder is a world class player he is probably in the top 5 in players in the world, his range of passing is up there with Scholes but many fans question if he suits the United system. Although his favoured position is just in the hole, he is more than capable of playing in a 2 man centre midfield a role he has played for a number of clubs. He is a dead ball specialist something United have lacked over the last few years and he brings that certain fear-factor with him.

At 27 he lacks the resale value the glaziers love but with shirt revenue and extra sponsorship he may bring that should help to ease the financial blow.

I'm excited by the Sneijder rumours I just hope Gill and Fergie can pull it off.
